Location and charm at Express Inn
Our stay was pleasantly complemented by the hotel’s welcoming atmosphere, and despite initial worries, we felt safe throughout our visit. The nearby Wal-Mart was very handy for quick needs.
Unfortunately, we found the bed uncomfortable and the lack of breakfast options was disappointing. There was also a bit of noise from the hallway that marred our relaxation.

convenient location near Wal-Mart, newly renovated appearance, proximity to essential services
No breakfast or additional amenities!!! The bed felt like a box spring and the pillows were incredibly thin!!! Rooms not ready at check-in, resulting in wasted time!!!

Our King Room was really comfy and seemed newly renovated. The area was pretty handy with a Wal-Mart nearby. We felt skeptical about the safety at first because of the crime reputation, but thankfully, everything felt fine during our stay. Just wished it had a little more soundproofing, as we could hear some noise from the hallway.

This place was an excellent fit for a short interlude in Newport News and great for the money. The front desk staff was really accommodating when we had issues with our TV remote and quickly provided a new one. If you want a little peace and quiet, try to ask for a room away from the elevator.
